Bought a Diamond Engagement Ring? Get a Refund!

by RC on February 7, 2008

Did you buy a diamond engagement ring, or any other piece of diamond jewelery in the  10+ years preceeding March, 2006?

Well DeBeers (the diamond conglomerate) has settled a lawsuit (in which alleged they cornered the diamond market), and have now set aside $135 million for regular consumers as part of the lawsuit.

How much can you get?  Well, if you purchased a ring or other jewelery with a purchase price between $1000 and $5499, you could be eligible for up to a 32% refund.  But, it really depends on how many people sign up for the settlement, which will likely be in the hundreds of thousands or more.  But, even if it is a small amount, its free money.

The time period for purchases by regular consumers like you and me, called the Consumers Subclass, is January 1, 1994, through March 31, 2006.  Sign-up or get more information on this settlement website. Don’t wait too long, the deadline is May 19, 2008.
